Waco Historical Society and Museum

How do you pronounce “Waco”… just like “Taco”!    Waco Biplanes were built in Troy, Ohio from the early 1920′s to the mid 1940′s.  The Waco Aircraft Company was the largest manufacturer of aircraft in the 20′s and 30′s, outselling all other aircraft manufacturers.  That is quite a statement in the heyday of aviation!

There are about 400 Wacos still in existence with about 200 still flying.

WACO Historical Society

The WACO Historical Society has a dual purpose: Preservation of history of the WACO Aircraft Company and the Golden Age of Flight; and the education of young people in the area of math, science, technology and history, using aviation themes as a means toward enhancing student enthusiasm and response to traditional classroom curriculum.

The WACO Historical Society, Inc., was founded in 1978 and is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization.  We are based at and operate Historic Waco Field, an authentic public grass airstrip (1WF).

Historic Waco Field  (1WF)

With the help of the WACO Historical Society members, many generous donors and supporters, Historic WACO Field opened in 1997.  The field consists of a 77 acre site and features a 2200 foot runway (1800 feet usable) south of Troy, Ohio.  Historic WACO Field is maintained by WACO volunteers and is constantly receiving upgrades and improvements, but we are always in need of additional volunteers to assist in the upkeep of the site.
